Meloxicam is an FDA-approved (in the USA) generic that is equivalent to Metacam^®. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to reduce inflammation and pain in animals, including dogs, cats, and calves. It has fewer side effects than drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen

In dogs, it is principally used for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis.

In cats, it is for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, ovariohystorectomy and castration when administered prior to surgery.
